Taylor believes Carroll can force his way back into England contention

RYAN TAYLOR has backed Andy Carroll to fight his way back into England contention in time for Euro 2012 – but hopes he starts his bid for Poland and Ukraine AFTER the clash with Liverpool tomorrow.

Taylor even believes the £35m man can STILL be one of the stars at the of the show at the European Championships with England still without a permanent manager – and still to determine exactly who will lead the line.

“There will be a new manager with England and everybody has different tastes. If Andy has a good back end to the season you never know,” said Taylor.

“I got a new deal through sheer hard work and a manager believing in me.

“So it can be done. That could be the same for Andy.

“If he has a good six or seven games now he could be England’s star man at the Euros. Then everybody forgets about his price tag.

“First, though, we need to keep him quiet.” Carroll has been told he faces a warm welcome in the Newcastle dressing room tomorrow as he returns in a playing capacity for the first time since leaving in January last year.

Taylor said: “It will be good to see Andy back at Newcastle – but hopefully he has an off day.

“All Liverpool fans and neutrals would love to see Andy back scoring goals again. He’s a fantastic player and a great lad.”

Even in this bad run of form Dalglish insists he does not regret returning....

Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish insists he does not regret returning to the club, even if his current spell in charge ends up harming his long-term legacy at Anfield.

Dalglish agreed to step into the void after predecessor Roy Hodgson was sacked in January 2011, initially taking on managerial responsibilities on an interim basis before being given the job full-time after overseeing an upturn in results.

Such an improvement has not been continued - in the league, at least - this season, however, with the Reds currently stranded in seventh after an inconsistent campaign to date that has seen some observers call upon Dalglish to step aside in favour of a new manager with more cutting-edge tactical ideas.

Despite the criticism he has received, Dalglish insists he does not regret his return to the dugout.

"I have said it was an honour to be asked to come back," Dalglish said. "It was unfortunate in the circumstances because Roy had lost his job.

"But I don't see any reason to change my opinion now."

The bright spots for Liverpool this season have come in the cup competitions, with the League Cup already in the trophy cabinet and the chance to reach the final of the FA Cup still well within reach. Dalglish believes his side might need to tailor their approach slightly to bring that sort of success to their league endeavours.

"Maybe our education in how to win a game means we don't need to be the attractive passing team we want to be," he noted. "Sometimes we've got to be more ruthless - it's all part and parcel of learning.

"We can win a game but you've also got to learn how not to lose one. We are good enough to win every game but maybe we've got to learn as well as the players and pass that education on to them.

"But I think we are good enough to beat everybody in the league. We knocked the teams who are first and second in the league out of both domestic cup competitions in January."

Although, in England, the transfer window formally opens on 1 July, transfers between clubs in the same association can take place as soon as the last competitive fixtures for the season have been played. However, many transfers will not be completed until 1 July because many players' contracts expire on 30 June. Outside of the transfer window, a club may still sign players on an emergency basis, usually if they have no goalkeeper available. Special dispensation from their competition's governing body, for example the Premier League, is required. The transfer window restriction does not apply to clubs below Football Conference level.

If the last day of a transfer window is on a weekend, the deadline can be extended to the following Monday at the request of those involved for business reasons. The first shift of the deadline since its inception took place in summer 2008, when the deadline was extended by 24 hours to fall on Monday 1 September at midnight. The transfer deadline in England was similarly extended to 5pm 1 September 2009, due to the August Bank Holiday. The German football league has announced to extend the January 2009 deadline to 2 February.

Free agents can be signed by a club at any time in the season, if they had been released by their previous club before the end of the transfer window. A club can request to sign a player on emergency basis, e.g. if several goalkeepers are injured at the same time. In England, clubs from the Football League Championship to the Football Conference can loan in players from 8 September to 25 November and also from 8 February until 24 March. An existing loan deal can be made permanent at any time outside the transfer window.

The day upon which a window closes is known as transfer deadline day, and is usually one of the busiest days of the window, generating a flurry of transfers, often because a number of interdependent transfers are completed resembling a housing chain, generating much media interest.

Liverpool's success will not be instant claims Dalglish

Criticism of Liverpool may be mounting after a run of poor results but manager Kenny Dalglish will not bow to the Twitter generation who crave instant success.

A run of five defeats in six league matches has led to all manner of questions being asked, ranging from the appetite of the players to Dalglish's judgement on tactics and in the transfer market.

The team were booed off by a rapidly-emptying Anfield after a 10th loss of the season at home to Wigan last weekend and there were some isolated calls to radio phone-ins and on social networking sites suggesting the Scot be replaced.

Liverpool may have already won the Carling Cup - their first piece of silverware for six years - and be in the semi-finals of the FA Cup but Dalglish bristles at the use of the phrase "instant success" in relation to his second spell in charge which began 15 months ago.

He believes it suggests there has been an element of luck over the work actually put in to achieve it.

"It is a modern idiom; you have social media which is instant and when you ask a question you get an instant reply," said the Reds boss.

"Everything is instant now - even coffee. There is no way it is anything other than that.

"But what has not changed at this club is the desire of the players to take the club forward and that is what we are trying to do.

"I don't think it will be done overnight, it won't be done on Twitter, it will be done with a lot of hard work and that is what we are trying to do.

"There is no success in football which is instant - you can forget instant.

"They won the Carling Cup because they deserved to win it and it was fantastic.

"But that is not us finished and we want to progress the club as far as we can.

"I wouldn't let the Carling Cup get in the way of anything - and it hasn't done."

Dalglish accepts their league results invite scrutiny but he is determined to take a longer-term view of the situation at Anfield.

And he does not believe the criticism coming their way will make the players perform any differently.

"I think there is a demand on everyone in any walk of life, whatever profession they work in," added the 61-year-old.

"I think if you are losing games you are not going to be praised.

"From our point of view we never get carried away when we win a game and we will not be suicidal when we lose.

"We need to get it in perspective. We will analyse it professionally - and as well as analysing the performances you also analyse yourselves.

"We will all work together to get a solution and at the moment they are working really hard.

"Their effort and determination to get it right is second to none.

"All we can do is try our very best and see if it will turn for us.

"We just have to keep believing in what we are doing. We haven't got any magic wand but what they have got is a great desire to get there.

"We just have to manage that desire and make sure we don't put ourselves under too much pressure."

Dalglish's opinion that the club have made progress on and off the pitch - referring to the record kit deal agreed with Warrior Sports from next season - has been ridiculed in some quarters.

But he maintains their recent run is purely bad results and not poor performances.

"I think you undermine them (the players) if you say they have played quite well in those six games because you can rate the performances quite highly apart from one (against Wigan)," added the manager, who takes his side to Newcastle on Sunday.

"It depends how people view success. I view success as the club moving forward, and that's what we're doing. We've moved forward in lots of ways.

"Maybe at times it isn't always apparent, but on the pitch the club is moving forward, in and around Melwood it's moved forward, off the pitch it's moved forward, the academy has moved forward.

"We certainly have made progress over the year, in lots of areas - not just the first team."

Lazio's Hernanes interests Liverpool FC....

Liverpool are reportedly monitoring the progress of highly-rated Lazio midfielder Hernanes, although may face competition for his signature.

The 26-year-old Brazilian has scored 21 goals in 65 appearances for the Biancocelesti since moving to the Stadio Olimpico in the summer of 2010, and appears to be attracting plenty of interest.

According to Tuttomercatoweb, Liverpool are one of three clubs chasing the €15 million-rated former Sao Paulo star, with Juventus and Bayern Munich also in the race for his signature.

It is not the first time Hernanes has been linked with a move to Anfield, with Liverpool reported to have been considering a move for him prior to his switch to Lazio.

Whether or not an official approach transpired remains to be seen, but Hernanes eventually signed for Lazio in a deal worth some €11 million.

Liverpool, meanwhile, are also reportedly chasing Hernandes' compatriot Diego, although the Brazilian could yet return to Wolfsburg after a season on loan with Atletico Madrid.

Fenway Park here we come.........

Liverpool will play AS Roma in a pre-season match in July at Fenway Park, the home of the Boston Red Sox, it was announced on Wednesday.

Fenway Sports Group is the sales arm of the ownership group for English Premier League club Liverpool, Major League Baseball team the Red Sox and a US stock car racing team, all now effectively under the control of US businessman John W. Henry.

Boston will serve as Liverpool's base for a 12-day tour that is set to feature what a Liverpool statement said was "two competitive games".

Fenway Park is one of baseball's most iconic venues and Henry hopes that staging a football (soccer) match there between Liverpool and Roma on July 25 will be a fitting way of helping the ground mark its centenary.

"During its 100-year history, Fenway Park has hosted some of the best in athletic competition, and a match between Liverpool and AS Roma - two of the world's most well-known and respected clubs - is an appropriate way to help celebrate Fenway's 100th anniversary and showcase our ballpark to an international audience," he said.

Liverpool have already won the English League Cup this season and are in the semi-finals of the FA Cup.

But the Merseyside club, who dominated the old English First Division in the 1970s and 1980s, are a huge 31 points behind Premier League leaders and arch-rivals Manchester United, the reigning champions, with just eight league games of the season left.

"We had a great time playing in front of our supporters in Asia last year and it will be good to give our fans in North America the chance to watch us live this summer", said Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish.

"My son Paul worked and played in America and he's told me about just how much interest there is in Liverpool, and English football, right now.

"We've had some amazing matches against Roma in the past, particularly the 1984 European Cup final (which Liverpool won after a penalty shoot-out at Rome's Olympic Stadium), so it should be fantastic."

Liverpool's pre-season trip will be the first time they have travelled to North America since 1994, when they played games in Connecticut, New Jersey and Toronto in Canada.

Liverpool v Everton - FA Cup Semi Final 14th April 2012

Liverpool will play Everton in the semi-final of the FA Cup after the Blues beat Sunderland on Tuesday night.

David Moyes's side recorded a 2-0 victory in the last-eight replay at the Stadium of Light to set up an all-Merseyside affair at Wembley next month.

The semi-final will be played at the national stadium on Saturday, April 14 with the kick-off time to be confirmed.

Tottenham will face Chelsea in the other last-four tie.

Then one big missing link is Lucas Levia...and then Daniel Agger

When searching for reasons to explain Liverpool’s troubles this season, it’s hard to look past the injury to Lucas Leiva.

The Brazilian international, who has won over the fans after five seasons at Anfield, started the season brightly for Kenny Dalglish’s side as a first team regular under the Scot.

However, an anterior cruciate ligament injury suffered in the Carling Cup win against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in November put the former Gremio starlet out until next season.

Lucas had to do things the hard way at Anfield, arriving for £5 million under Rafael Benitez in 2007 with great expectations.

However, times were tough in his first two years with the club, being booed off by fans and competing for a regular place against the likes of Javier Mascherano, Xabi Alonso and Steven Gerrard.

But, whilst it clearly took the 25-year-old time to adapt to English football, Lucas showed signs of finding his feet towards the end of the 2008-09 season, and would feature in 35 Premier League games the following year.

When Roy Hodgson signed Christian Poulsen the next summer, suggestions were that Lucas could fall down the pecking order. However, the 20-cap international outshone his rival, and when Kenny Dalglish took charge in January he remained at the heart of the side.

The fans were suitably impressed, voting Lucas the Player of the Year on their official website.

The current campaign appeared to be going the same way for as well for Lucas, with 15 starts in all competitions before the trip to west London cut short his campaign.

Since the injury, Liverpool have won just five Premier League games, picking up 19 points from 17 games in the process. Whilst success in the Cup competitions has masked such poor form, the recent bad run has served to highlight the team’s ongoing difficulties in the English top flight.

That compares to 23 points from 13 games before the injury – a quite clear discrepancy. And, whilst the injury is obviously not the sole problem on Merseyside, it has amplified other issues.

Jordan Henderson, who has under-performed this season, has played more minutes than would have been expected if Lucas was fit, for example.

For the Brazilian, his current aim is to keep working hard on rehabilitation, and return stronger than ever next season.

"I know everyone is disappointed (about Wigan defeat), but we need to move on and keep working. My rehab is going well and hopefully I will be fit for next season. It was a bad injury so I need to recover properly to be strong again," said Lucas on Twitter over the weekend.

He will return to a difficult schedule though, with Europa League football assured thanks to the Carling Cup final victory over Cardiff City last month. Dreams of a place in the Champions League are all-but over though, after five losses in six saw the Reds lose tough with the fourth-place pack.

Dalglish will have to treat Lucas with care on return, and may have to re-think his strategy in terms of playing his strongest sides in Cup competitions.

Realistically, the clubs first team regulars will not be able to challenge on all fronts without a certain degree of burnout. If ‘King Kenny’ is saying his players are tired now, then it’s going to be even worse next season.

In that sense, the priorities will be clear to see very early on next season. Are Liverpool a cup team, looking to add silverware to the trophy cabinet, or a team looking to return to the top four and club football’s elite in Europe?

Either way, Lucas will probably be able to help with one of those tasks – it just remains to be seen which one.

Liverpool track previously linked Ex Barcelona star

Liverpool are reportedly tracking Roma striker Bojan Krkic who is said to be unhappy at the Stadio Olimpico after failing to secure a regular first team spot since his move to the Serie A side from Barcelona last summer.

Anfield’s director of football Damien Comolli has had the pint-sized attacker scouted ahead of a possible summer bid from the Merseyside club.

The 21-year-old Spanish international cost Roma a fee of £11m but is the subject of a fairly complicated transfer exchange that will require Luis Enrique’s side having to fork out a hefty sum to buy the player outright with Barcelona able to exercise a buyback option if they so desire.

However Pep Guardiola has seen a number of young talents burst onto the scene in the wide and striking areas that Bojan plies his trade, most notably Pedro, Cristian Tello and Isaac Cuenca, this would mean a move back to the Catalan club is unlikely but leaves Roma having to think long and hard about signing the adaptable attacker outright.

This leaves Comolli looking to sneak in and capture the striker as he looks to bring in suitable attacking options that can help beef up a front-line that has struggled for goals this season.

Kenny Dalglish has tried to play Luis Suarez and Andy Carroll as a strike pairing but has watched as the duo fail to gel and to cap things off Liverpool lack back up options or impact players who can help support Suarez who currently bears the lions share of the goal scoring burden.

Liverpool were strongly linked with Bojan during Rafa Benitez’s tenure at the club and the talented young forward has a great deal of top level experience and a desire to get his career back on track and a move to the Premier League may well tempt the forward as he looks to get himself back into the Vicente del Bosque’s national team set-up.

Bojan Krkic made over 150 appearances for Barcelona, notching up 41 goals in the process, but has spent most of the current campaign on the Roma bench as Enrique opts for his preferred pairing of Pablo Osvaldo and Fabio Borini up front.

Liverpool show interest in Martinez but not at £35M

Liverpool have joined Manchester United and Manchester City in the race to sign Athletic Bilbao midfielder Javi Martinez.

The 23-year-old’s performances this season have seen him become one of the most coveted players in Europe.

Sir Alex Ferguson, who had the chance to see Martinez close up when the Basque club knocked United out of the Europa League, is a long-term admirer of the Spain international.

He had hoped to negotiate a transfer without becoming involved in a bidding war, but City, Barcelona, Real Madrid and Inter Milan have also been strongly linked with the player, who has a £34 million buyout clause in his contract.

According to reports in Italy, Liverpool have now expressed an interest in the Bilbao star, although they would not be prepared to match the asking price.

Whilst many are of the belief that Liverpool’s problem area is up front and that a lack of goals is costing the Anfield side a shot at a top four finish, perhaps there is also a need for more direction in their midfield, certainly a lack of steel has become apparent ever since Brazilian Lucas Leiva was sidelined with a serious injury.

Javi Martinez could be very well suited to a move to the Premier League and the two performances the Spanish international put in against Man United in the Europa League were further proof of the 23 year-old’s ability to play in a more physically demanding environment.

The young rangy midfielder combines the strength and stamina of a defensive midfielder with the guile and combative abilities you would find in a more advanced central midfield presence and that is why the Athletic Bilbao man has become a much targeted player.

Liverpool brought in the likes of Jordan Henderson and Charlie Adam to boost their options in this regard but the former Sunderland man has been a huge disappointment and the Scottish international, whilst at times effective, has been a shadow of the star performer he was with Blackpool.

However the Anfield side are not likely to meet the £34m valuation placed on Martinez and may have to hope that the asking price drops before they enter any bidding war.

Newcastle United v Liverpool - Matchday Odds

My view on Liverpool players performances this season.....

App
Pepe Reina 30 Not been as prolific shot stopper as in previous seasons.
Jose Enrique 29 Been a revelation since joining, last few performances looked jaded.
Charlie Adam 27 Poor signing, struggles in every game, cannot clear the 1st defender on crosses.
Martin Skrtel 27 Had a immense season so far.
Jordan Henderson 24 Player for the future, played out of position and started to many games.
Stewart Downing 24 Very slow to start at Liverpool but starting to show some form.
Luis Suarez 23 Hampered by suspension and goes to ground to easy, but still a legend.
Daniel Agger 20 Like Skrtel he's had a immense season by curtailed by injury again.
Dirk Kuyt 19 Gives 100%, played out of position, not had a good season.
Glen Johnson 17 Got back to playing at his best, injury now hampering him.
Andrew Carroll 15 Not played enough games, when he does he needs to use his strength and height better.
Jamie Carragher 14 Been a bit part player this season, starting to slow down.
Lucas Leiva 12 Had a great start until injury struck, sorely missed.
Jay Spearing 11 Again player for the future, good worker but lacks creativity and goes back more than forward.
Martin Kelly 10 Solid right back cover, plays well when called on, injury prone.
Craig Bellamy 9 Arguably the best of the signings this season, age catching up with him with injuries.
Steven Gerrard 9 Injury has plagued Stevie's season but excellent when he came back.
Maxi Rodriguez 5 Not given the chance this season, so performances under par when finally given a game.
Jonathan Flanagan 2 Another youngster for the future, played well when called on.
Sebastian Coates 2 Good young player for the future, possibly scored the goal of the season against QPR.
Jonjo Shelvey 1 Good lad, not given many chances been out on loan, great potential.
Doni - Benchwarmer to Reina.
Raheem Sterling - Showed more in 6 mins v Wigan than the rest of the palyers did all game. One for the future if we can keep him.

Stats show Kenny is not doing as bad as a lot of fans think.....

Liverpool set to sign a new Suarez.....

Liverpool are preparing to buy another Suarez – after Anderlecht’s £20million-rated striker Matias Suarez emerged as their top target.

Kop technical director Damien Comolli has watched the 23-year-old Argentinian in recent months – but Liverpool are just one of three Premier League clubs monitoring the player.

West Brom and another unnamed club have made their interest known to Anderlecht, but Liverpool’s financial power has put them in pole position.

Comolli was shocked to discover how much the Belgian club want for Suarez Mk II, but Anderlecht manager Herman van Holsbeeck has revealed of host of top sides are trailing the forward.

Liverpool could well do with attacking alternatives but £20m seems a big fee to spend on a player with no ‘top level’ league experience and without an international cap, however the Merseyside club spent a similar amount on Jordan Henderson so perhaps Matiaz Suarez is worth at least that!

The Anderlecht man has been in fine form this term, notching up 17 goals and 11 assists and has become something of a cult figure at the Belgian side and therefore it’s no surprise that the Brussels based side are keen to cash in on his probable sale.

The 23 year old is a lively frontman and is a similar style of player to Luis Suarez so one wonders if they can play as a pair and indeed Liverpool may see Matias Suarez as a wide option, perhaps on the right flank?

Liverpool have struggled for goals with Andy Carroll failing to form a workable partnership with Suarez and the Merseyside club could well do with back-up alternatives as currently the players Kenny Dalglish can call upon are Craig Bellamy and Dirk Kuyt, both over 30 and more effective in wide roles.

One wonders who are the third Premier League side keen on Matias Suarez but one would imagine that Liverpool are ahead of West Brom in the chase for the former Belgrano forward.
